Are
you new to horse ownership? PLEASE READ!
We are well aware of how being in the company of these magnificent
animals can be emotionally therapeutic. They have a way of grabbing hold
of our hearts and refreshing our souls -- from horse-crazy children to
retired senior citizens -- they don't care. Each and every day they show
us that they are useful and rewarding partners, teachers and
soul-mates whose benefits can far outweigh the negatives. We
acknowledge this as fact.
However, purchasing and owning a horse is a huge responsibility. Those who have not "kept" a horse in this day and age need to be reminded that it is a fairly expensive and time-intensive endeavor. Before you buy your first horse please take the time to research and know the level of commitment you must make! Here are some areas we recommend you investigate: 1.) Stabling/housing costs, 2.) Veterinary, 3.) Farrier, 4.) Feed and supplements, 5.) Tack, supplies and equipment, 6.) Transportation - emergency or regular, 7.) Insurance and liability, 8.) Care during vacations and Holiday trips, and 9.) Professional training needs, if any. If you have an interest in showing your new horse there are tons of financial, educational, and travel implications that need consideration.
In all of these instances the best advice one can get is -- take your time. It is difficult to completely separate the emotion from a horse purchase decision, but if you slow down and do some homework you'll be more likely to make the best decision for you and/or your family. We know this, too, to be fact - been there, done that!
Have a clear plan for your enjoyment and use of the horse before calling us. We'll want to know it.
